‘I do not treat the grace of God as meaningless—‘. Galatians 2:21
Of course not, you would say.
But if you’re anything like me, your tendency to seek perfection would say something different. Even in writing this, here I sit, seeking the perfect word—every. perfect. word.
So, what I learned this morning; perfection seeks to be a kind of law. We fall short, we feel condemned, we feel like we must do something to be made right with God again.
But what Christ did was final.
There is no perfection the Lord could desire. Our efforts are an ignorant dismissal of the death Jesus died on the cross; the ultimate, perfect Sacrifice. There is nothing left to sacrifice—just hearts surrendered.
Scripture says it best. It points us to a life lived for God. There is no grand list of requirements we have to meet—that includes the ones we make for ourselves. Let us stop striving for something that is not asked of us. Live not by your own law of perfection. But live instead, by faith in the Son.
‘Live by faith in the Son of God’. Galatians 2:20
If perfection is a struggle for you in a similar way, I encourage you to read Galatians 2:11-21. It has offered me a new kind of perspective of Jesus’ life and death, how the law relates to us even today, and my personal beliefs surrounding how I ‘should be’. Keep praying <3.
